Over 100 to join chess tilts
CEBU, Philippines - Over a hundred of Cebu’s top chess players will see action in the Cebu Fest 2010 Blitz Open and Simultaneous Games kicks off today at the launching of South Road Properties.
Already 60 of Cebu’s players have registered for the Blitz Open while a great number of men, women and kiddies have registered for the simultaneous games to be conducted by International Master Kim Steven Yap.
Blitz cash prizes range 3,000, 2,000, 1,000 for the top three finishers. The rest of the top 15 winners will also receive cash prizes.
Blitz registration fee is P50. Simultaneous games are free.
An incentive of P100 will be given to players who will beat IM Yap. Each participant is required to bring their own chess set.
The chess venue is located between the Ultimate Frisbee and Drag Race. All traffic going to the sporting events will turn left after the Sugbo building area and pass first at the Chess corner area.
The Blitz Open will start at 2:00 in the afternoon while the Simultaneous Games is scheduled at 4:00 pm.
Tournament manager, Roger Abella, said that chess participants can ride the free shuttle going to the venue.
A bus will leave City Hall between 1 to 1:30 p.m while another one will be leaving the Pardo church between 11:15 and 12 noon. – THE FREEMAN
