CEBU, Philippines - Jan Godfrey Seno slammed Vudie Carl Balondo, 6-1, 6-0 to barge into the quarterfinal round of the boys 12-under in the 15th Gullas Cup tennis tournament at the Cebu Country Club.
Christopher Encarnacion also posted a convincing win at the expense of Norman Joseph Enriquez, 6-0, 6-2.
Five others advanced into the next round, so far, including Jeff Balatero, King Paler, Joshua Kinaadman, Clyde Dujale and Francis Lambayan.
Balatero dumped John Mark Abad,6-1,6-0, Paler silenced Von Cubcub 6-0,6-1, Kinaadman ousted Ashton Repunte, 6-1,6-2 and Lambayan outsmarted Clyde Laquio, 7-5,6-2.
In the boys 16-under, five players moved up to the round of 16 in the likes of Ivan Casinillo, Leomar Sarvida, Troy Pintor, Louie Mark Vincent Pestaño and Joshua David Bendoy.
Casinillo defeated Reynaldo Dimao, 6-0, 6-3, while Sarvida kicked away Rex John Sabella, 6-1,6-1.
Pintor survived an exhausting match against Joel de la Torre, 6-3, 6-1, 10-7, while Pestaño won against Eldan Magallanes, 6-4, 6-3 and Bendoy prevailed over Puyn Honoridez, 6-0, 6-1.
The girls action will begin today also at the CCC tennis courts instead at Baseline.
Close to 140 entries joined the southern Philippines’ biggest age-group tennis competition.
