12th Ornopia Cup motocross tourney gets underway today in Calambua

CEBU, Philippines - The Ornopia Cup, the forerunner of the MS Motosuit Motocross Series in Cebu and other areas in Visayas and Mindanao, will unfold its 12th edition today in Calambua, San Remigio, Cebu. 

The Ornopia Cup was first held as an offering to St. Vincent Ferrer, the patron saint of Calambua where the family of businessman-sportsman Lou Ornopia comes from.

“It all started in my place in Barangay Calambua. Every year naa mi lumba in time of our fiesta celebration in honor of St. Vincent Ferrer. Nagkadako ang lumba ug last year was the biggest because a total of 16 events ang atong naheld here in Visayas and Mindanao area,” Ornopia said.

From a yearly fiesta event, the Ornopia Cup blossomed as a breeding ground for the local riders. It serves as the second leg of this year’s 5th MS Motosuit Motocross Series.

After the race, the riders are in for a night of fun and surprises as the organizers will award the best riders of 2009. (FREEMAN NEWS)
