CEBU, Philippines - The 4th Copa de Casino Español de Cebu kicks off on April 15 with five sporting events.
This year’s edition features golf, badminton, tennis, billiards and poker as announced during a press conference the other night at Casino Español.
Swimming, basketball and bowling may also be included in this year’s action if there will be enough participants since Casino Español also has facilities for the said events.
“Swimming will be for kids, but we still don’t know if this will push through or not. We can also have basketball and hopefully we can also have bowling, if not tenpin, we hope we can revive duckpin bowling here,” said overall chairman Edito ‘Nonoy’ Tirol.
Although this is only the fourth edition for the Copa de Casino Español, they have been staging golf named Copa de Golf for 10 years now.
Ironically, the club does not have its own golf course, but its members are into the said sport.
The premier golf action will be staged at Club Filipino de Cebu in Danao City next month.
Golf will be a four-man competition with the team representing Leyte Golf and Country Club as the defending champion.
This year’s golf event is expected to attract around 40 teams.
According to golf tournament chairman, Boy Limkakeng, P200,000 will be at stake as hole-in-one prize in two of the par-3 holes.
They plan to give away a golf cart or a motorcycle for an ace on the other par-3 holes.
Tennis will be the first event to be staged on the 15th of this month since organizers led by Nonoy Tirol noticed that this event takes a lot of time to be finish since it has the men’s and women’s singles and doubles and mixed events and even a team competition.
The playing dates for the other sporting events will be announced later.
Cue artists will be playing in a 9-ball tournament while poker players will have the Texas Hold’ Em event with no limit.
Aside from the vying for the top spots in all sporting events they are joining, there is also the award for the Casino Español Player of the Year.
The POY will be named based on the points that one earns from joining various events. (FREEMAN NEWS)
