CEBU, Philippines - Jusabelle Brillo and Genie Sabas of Team Froilan crushed Apple Eve Saraum and Mechelle Matuguina University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) in straight sets to clinch the championship of the 2nd Talisay Beach Volley yesterday at the landing site in Brgy. Poblacion, Talisay City.

Brillo, a member of the RP Team, and Sabas trounced Saraum and Matuguina in the first set, 25-14, and then finished off the USPF tandem in dominating fashion, 25-17.

“We did not expect to claim the title because we didn’t have enough practice. But with great trust with each other and strong determination to win, we were able to overcome the odds,” said Sabas.

“Our attacks and defenses worked out. These were our weapons to victory,” said Brillo.

In the battle for third place, Kennette Garces and Marissa Lagancia of Volleyball Addicts overpowered the rookie duo of Metosheena Bate and Suzette Panis of the University of San Carlos, 25-18, 25-19.

Aside from medals and trophies, the champion pocketed P5,000, while the second and third got P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

The event is among the highlights of the 65th anniversary of Takas sa Talisay, an annual event portraying the beach landing of the American Army in Talisay during World War II to liberate Cebu from the invading Japan forces. (FREEMAN NEWS)
