Cebu's Carcel rules KF3 Race in Cavite

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Juan Antonio “Tonyo” Carcel, one of Cebu’s best go-kart racers today, is back with a big bang.

After a few months of inactivity, Carcel swiftly basked in the limelight after taking home a championship trophy in the 2010 Pairor International KF3 Race the other day in Carmona, Cavite.

According to Neil Carcel, the proud father/coach of the 14-year-old Tonyo, and KF3 is the equivalent to F1 in karting. This class used to be called the junior inter-continental A until it was changed to KF3 several years ago.

Carcel’s latest feat is considered to be one of the most dramatic finish he ever had because he did not only become a saving grace for the Cebuanos, he also displayed a commendable fighting spirit by clinching the crown in come-from-behind fashion.

Carcel, an upcoming sophomore student of Paref-Springdale, snatched the prestigious title by ‘diving’ in the final lap that thrilled the spectators to the bones.

In karting parlance, ‘diving’ means overtaking in a tight corner in the last lap and Carcel delivered it well to the amazement of the crowd.

Carcel, who was honored for the second straight year by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) for his stirring exploits in karting, was doubly happy as he also recorded the best time in a single lap at 43.3 seconds.          (FREEMAN NEWS)
