GAA repeats mastery over CECABA stars

-

CEBU, Philippines - Shooting guard Vicent “Inting” Reyes knocked in five triples of his topscoring 28 points as the Guadalupe Athletics Association (GAA) selection reaffirmed its dominance over the Chester Cokaliong-led CECABA All-Stars, 109-97, in their exhibition match last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

For his all-around performance, Reyes was the runaway choice as the MVP.

The GAA selection of playing coach Dr. Boy Te overcame a lackluster showing in the first half and staged a strong third-quarter surge to dictate the pace of the match.

The CECABA stars had their last taste of lead at 75-73 on a triple by Richard Lanutan with less than three minutes left in the third period as Reyes countered with a triple to spark a 13-0 rally that suddenly put GAA ahead by 14 points, 89-75, with still 10:32 left to play.

CECABA threatened for the last time at 83-95 on back-to-back triples by Cokaliong but GAA held on its ground firmly until the final buzzer.

Cokaliong fired 22 points spiked with six triples for CECABA, while Wilson Yu and Christopher Cokaliong tossed in 14 and 12 markers, respectively, in a losing effort.
