Kim-Chung rules AVGCC February tourney

-

CEBU, Philippines - The tandem of Kim Nam Youn and Howard Chung won the division 1 title of the February Monthly Medal of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

The pair scored a net 55 strokes in the two-man, best-ball format.

Runner-up honors for the premiere class went to Enrico Solon and Edwin Go Lim with 58 strokes.

Dan Ledesma and Boy Cunanan topped division 2 scoring 56 strokes and edging the duo of Rey Dira and Jun Mendoza in the countback by virtue of a better last nine holes.

Dira and Mendoza settled for the runner-up honors.

The tournament format requires both players to hit their tee shots and then from there the team members would decide which ball is in a better position. The owner of the ball hits his shot from where the chosen ball lies while the partner hits another shot from the same spot and then they repeat the procedure until they hole out.

The division 3 title went to Richard Li and James Tolentino with 56 strokes while the team of Michael Song and Angela Park with 57 strokes.

Ed Sy and club director Vicente ‘Inting’ Go won the title of the seniors’ class with a net 59. They edged the duo of Allan Lua and Roy Damole in the countback. Lua and Damole settled for the runner-up honors.

Sandy Reyes won the title of the guest division that used the blind Callaway handicapping system. He had a net score of 71.

Ted Almario, who had a net score of 72 was the runner-up.

Jun Mendoza won the special award for nearest the pin on hole No. 6 as he left himself a four-foot putt for a birdie.

The most accurate drive on hole No. 11 was made by David Villono, whose ball landed two feet from the center line. – NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
