Wear sunscreen

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiones -

The soaring temperatures have sent many people trooping indoors. Outdoor sports may not be very attractive these days, but many of us can’t avoid to really be out there to have our dose of fun.

Take golfers for example, you can’t keep them cooped up indoors most especially when they see the fairways and greens that look so inviting.

In order to survive, make sure you take precaution to avoid problems that come with the heat.

There was a song that espoused the use of sunscreen. Yes, definitely make sure you use sunscreen and also make sure that you use on with the correct sun protection factor (SPF).

Keep yourself hydrated. Drinks lots of fluids, but avoid alcohol as it contributes to dehydration no matter how cold the bottle of beer you are drinking at the golf course is.

For golfers, you can also tee off very or early or late to avoid the mid-morning heat.

For parents of athletes, make sure you pack sunscreen and lots of drinks when you take them to training or to the games. Bring an umbrella too to help shield you from the rays of the sun.

Overexposure to the sun is bad and you don’t need to be a doctor to know that.

I have already received a few inquiries from parents about summer sports programs for their children.

The first one to ask was a friend, who has a seven-year-old son, who she said wants to learn how to swim.

Another parent was inquiring about summer football clinics and also about junior golf.

Many of the summer programs are already accepting enrollees.

For those really interested, you can head to the Cebu City Sports Center and check out the announcements plastered on the bulletin boards and on streamers for the summer sports activities.

You can also monitor the local newspapers for announcements.

Taking part in sports does not only teach your children a lot of good things, its can also teach parents many lessons.

One such lesson is learning to step backward and allow the coach to do his thing. Meddling parents don’t always help make things better.
