CBM bets bags seven MOA awards

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Blue Marlins Swim Club puts icing to its victory cake with seven of its swimmers hailed as most outstanding athletes in their respective classes at the end of the 2nd Osky Cup and National Youth Selection try-out at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.CBM officially defended its crown with 9,556.50 points. Its overall supremacy could only be toppled if all other competing teams combined their points altogether in the three-day Philippine Aquatics Sports Association(PASA)-sanctioned event.

Silliman University’s swim team could only get as much as 2,593.50 points, but was good enough for a second place finish while Panaad Swim Club wound up third with 2,106 points.

The fourth to 14th placers in this event held in memory of Oscar Mabilog, who spearheaded the “Swim Against Drugs” program, were Negros Oriental Blue Dolphins (2,004), Binirayan Tadpoles (1,314), NOGCCSC (1,257.50), North Shores Waves (1,208), First United Davao Swim Club (1,208), Dadiangas Torpedoes (924), Cagayan de Oro Swim Club (798), Bohol Dolphins (514.50), Gensan Warrior Aquatic Club (259), Coastland Davao (236), and the Thunder Sharks Swim Club (11).

More to it, coach Rolando Alvarez’s wards got more than half of the MOA awards at stake in the meet led by Mabilog’s grand daughter Paula Abigail in the girls 15-17 class.

The rest of CBM’s MOA honorees were Noel Cañeda, Aimee Sanchez, Beth May Arellano, Michael Ichiro Kong, and Lyh Ann and Anthony Linn Navarro. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
