CEBU, Philippines - Host Cebu Blue Marlins got off to a hot start in the 2nd Osky Mabilog Memorial Cup and National Youth Team Selection Trials yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Of the first 32 events, CBM of coach Rolando Alvarez fished out 14 gold spiced up with 12 silver and nine bronze medals.
Panaad Swim Club was a far second with 4-4-2 gold-silver-bronze tally followed by the Negros Oriental Blue Dolphins with 3-2-2, Biliran Tadpoles with 2-3-1 and the Dadiangas Torpedoes with 2-3-0.
Noel Cañeda led CBM’s charge with three golds through the boys 18-under 400m freestyle and in the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Michael’s sister, Paula Abigail, contributed two golds via the girls 15-17 400m freestyle and 50m breastroke.
Aimee Sanchez also had two golds in the girls 18 under 400m freestyle and 50m breastroke, in the same way with Renan Gabriel Tapang and Karen Mae Indaya. Tapang ruled in the boys 7-8 class, while Karen Mae Indaya made waves in the girls 9-10 bracket.
The rest of the CBM’s golds were mined by Danielle Ballesteros in the girls 11-12 breast stroke and Michael Ichiro Kong in the boys 9-10 class.
