CEBU, Philippines - Defending champion Super Idols led by flashy guard Ramsey Quijano demolished YLAC, 74-54, even as two other teams also got off to winning starts in the 2010 Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym along Escario street, this city.
In the other games, Mt. Zion took a 54-53 scalping of the much-favored Pecandela Law Firm, while the Pañeros crushed the Iron Eagles, 68-59. Both the Pecandela Law Firm and the Pañeros advanced into the top four of last year’s tournament.
The Super Idols pulled away early and took a 36-27 lead at the turn.
Six-foot-2 pivotman Fermin Pepito spearheaded the Super Idols with a game-high 33 points while Noel Adlawan finished with 18 points for YLAC.
Mt. Zion, on the other hand, staged a furious 22-13 run in the fourth period to send the Pecandela wobbling into the stands.
Benjie Macion powered Mt. Zion with 14 points. The trio of Mark Russ Gamallo, Francis Pepito and Jessie Capoy netted 10 markers each for Pecandela.
In the final game of the day, Barry Busi and Dennis Aliño led the Pañeros with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Ian Santos topped the Iron Eagles with 20 points.
