World scrabblefest Visayas elims at UV
CEBU, Philippines - Its all systems go for the very first World Youth Scrabble Championships (WYSC)-Visayas Qualifying come February 20-21 at the HRM laboratory of UV-Main Campus.
There will be two divisions – youth class for players aged 17 years old below as of January 30, 2010 coming from the Visayas region only and open category, which will cater all Filipino scrabble players.
The two-day tournament features 13 games King-of-the-Hill (KOTH) with no repeats format and it will follow the World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) rules.
The over-all top five individual winners will receive cash, medals and token with the chance to form part of the Philippine Youth Team to play in the World Youth Scrabble Championship on December 8-10 in Manila.
Registration fee is pegged at P150 each student coming from the same school and P180 each for student coming from schools with less than four players and for the out-of-school youth.
The National Scrabble Association of the Philippines (NASCAP) will handle the tournament and will provide scrabble sets and timers with the help of Mr. Roger Abella who is the Cebu Scrabble Tournament Director.
The tournament is co-sponsored by UV Alumni Association Incorporated for the prizes for the top five winners, Richwell Trading Corporation, the official distributor of scrabble sets and PlanetBiz International Inc. as the official drink.
The top five players in the Visayas eliminations will automatically represent the region for the WYSC-National Finals this June. There will be eight players from Luzon and three players from the Mindanao qualifying, who would also earn tickets for the nationals. (FREEMAN NEWS)
