Tuñacao claims Mandaue's lone gold in ABAP tourney

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Rommel Tuñacao saved Mandaue City from a gold medal blackout in the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP)-organized 2010 National Youth Amateur Boxing Championships, which came to a close yesterday in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Tuñacao eked out a close 18-16 win over Baguio City's Jude Ian Lescano to grab the gold in the kids 28 kgs. division.

Rheson Tarona, on the other hand, could only turn over silver medal after he was retired in the second round by Misamis Oriental's Rafael Jalnaiz.

Richard Rama earlier produced bronze, making it a decent for Mandaue of head coach Peter Cuizon despite sending only four pugs to the annual event sponsored by SMART Communications. (FREEMAN NEWS)
