Canillas stops foe in first round in Summit amateur boxing

CEBU, Philippines - Ryan Jade Canillas posted the shortest victory in the initial offering of the 2010 Summit Natural Drinking Water Amateur Boxing Series at the Gaisano Countymall carpark.

The Toledo City-native Canillas retired Patrick Seleon of the Philippines-Australian Boxing Club (PABC) at 1:08 of the first round in their 60 kgs. duel.

Cabancalan’s Jomar Caspe joined the winners’ circle after scoring a 3-0 whitewwash of Dominique Casañares of Bacayan in the opening match under the 23 kgs. division.

25 kgs. Vicente Seos-e Jr. and 46 kgs. Ferde San Roque also posted a 3-0 shutout over separate foes. Seos-e pounded Banilad’s Rammel Casañares, while San Roque hammered Pit-os’ Danlou Codilla.

Flores Boxing Club, on the other hand, recorded a 3-2 win-loss record to start the year with a bang.

FBC’s victorious simonpures were 25 kgs. John Rick Inso, 28 kgs. Rommel Tuñacao and 32 kgs. Melmark Dignos.

Inso clobbered PABC’s Kint Mike Tuñacao, Tuñacao whipped Sta.Cruz,Talisay’s Alvin Alfuro, while Dignos overpowered PABC’s Rheson Tarona.

The two other FBC entries, however, ended up at the loser’s bracket as Arnel Vega bowed to Sanai’s Margarito Moya in 36 kgs. class and Charlie Pukdol fell prey to Butuan’s Mark Bernaldez in the 60 kgs. category.

Marco Pumar and Jeffrey Estella became the saving grace of their respective teams. Estella overwhelmed Kit Garces in the 28 kgs., while Pumar bested PABC’s Richard Rama in the 26 kgs. class.
