Bernad's Fastball sweeps three friendly matches vs. Barili batters
CEBU, Philippines - Team Fastball led by Jesse Bernad swept its three-game exhibition matches against some seasoned players of Barili last Saturday.
Fastball, beefed up by some expats and Bernad’s coaching staff, opened the day with a 22-14 drubbing of the Barili Selection in a fast-pitch softball game.
Veteran batters Jack Genolaga and Alinton Adolfo along with Ben Arcanghel dashed for several homers to show the way for Fastball. Barili pulled within just a hairline but lost its steam in the finall inning, paving the way for Fastball to chalk up an eight-point win.
In its next assignment, Fastball hacked out a 25-19 triumph over Team Yat Wah in come-from-behind fashion.
Yat Wah actually dictated the pace of the game until Kling-Klang Diñola scored two homeruns to turn the tide of the match in favor of the visiting Fastball sluggers. The big hits of Marlon Baula, Ric Ampiloquio and Jesse Bernad also keyed Fastball’s win.
The two protagonists figured in a rematch, with Fastball reaffirming its mastery via an 8-3 decision. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN NEWS)
