Veterans to face young guns in Jiboren's Cup final games

CEBU, Philippines - It's going to be veterans against varsity squads in the final battle of the 1st Sinulog Jiboren's Cup Volleyball Open at Pasil Sports Complex.

In the men's division, Dindo Salon Xclusivz led by RP Team member Jonrey Sasing booted out erstwhile tormentor University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) in straight sets, 25-18, 25-20 to set up a championship showdown with the University of San Carlos (USC), which advanced following a 25-17, 25-18 drubbing of the John Patrick Caylo (JPC) squad.

Aside from Sasing, the likes of former USPF stalwarts, Angellan Visoc, Clifford Cafe, James Ryan Rivera, Ronald Melencion, Roy Ulan and SWU coach Joerem Yu powered Team Dindo to a vengeful victory over the USPF spikers.

The Roderick Arenasa-mentored USC was bannered by Dennis Sepulveda, Edward Carlo Tecson, Bonvie Estrera, Jerone Maestre, Kennith Bensig, Harvey Bernil and Earven Gallegos.

In the women's bracket, Team Froilan set up a titular battle against the USPF volleybelles.

Team Froilan overcame a second-set collapse to trounce Team Cebu City, 25-19, 19-25 and 25-15, while USPF also survived a second-set breakdown to terminate USC, 25-12, 19-25, 25-21.

Aside from trophies, the champion will pocket P15,000, while the second placer will take home P12,000. The third and fourth will receive P7,000 and P5,000, respectively. – THE FREEMAN
