P200,000 at stake in Osmeña motocross

Everything is already in place for the biggest motocross event in the Queen City of the South in almost two decades, the 1st Mayor Tomas Osmeña Invitational Motocross Cup set on December 27 at the South Road Properties.

Aside from putting up the P200,000 cash prize for the different category winners, Cebu City Councilor Edu Rama said the City is also supporting the one-day tilt in terms of the safety of the riders and spectators by deploying members of the police force and medics as well as coordinating with the barangay officials in the said area among others.

It’s been close to two decades since the last bigtime motocross action took place in Cebu so the City government is pouring in its full support for the event.

“The city government is supporting sporting events and when the Mayor (Osmeña) saw an underbone competition near SRP one time, it led to this motocross event,”said Rama during a news conference yesterday at Teatro Casino in Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Man and Machine/Power Sports Racing (PSR) president Jonas Adlawan said they just signed a one-year deal with city government through the SRP management for the use of a parcel of SRP as venue for their motocross races in the future.

Adlawan, on the other hand, said riders from Ozamiz, Lanao del Norte-Dimaporo, Dipolog, Zamboanga, Ormoc, Team Pacquiao led by Buboy Fernandez, Bohol, Dumaguete and Sel-J Sports and a bunch of homegrown talents have already signified their intent to join the contest.

“We’re targeting 80 to 100 participants. This is really a big event because it is national in scope,” said Adlawan, whose son Jon-Jon will compete in the experts division.

Aside from motocross, there will be also an underbone competition to spice up the slambang event.

The categories to be contested include the expert, executive, beginners, intermediate, mini and peewee.
