Boy Alegre rules Seniors' X'mas golf

CEBU, Philippines - Romeo ‘Boy’ Alegre stood the tallest last Friday as he bagged the lowest gross honors in the 2009 Senior Golfers Christmas Fellowship Golf Tournament played at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

Alegre, of the Mactan Island Golf Club, shot nines of 37 for an 18-hole total of two-over-par 74 strokes.

Celestino Rodriguez of Pamplona Plantation Golf and Country Club in Negros topped the Young Seniors category with an output of net 60 strokes off a gross score of 91.

First runner-up was Philip Huang of Alta Vista with a net score of 63 edging Robert Tiu, also of the host club, in the countback. Tiu settled for the second runner-up plum.

The Mature Seniors crown went to Al Alcibar, who led a sweep by Alta Vista as he shot a net score of 64 strokes.

Bobby Barria bagged the first runner-up honors with his net score of 67 edging Ed Sy in the countback. Sy took the second runner-up trophy.

The Super Seniors title went to Teodulo ‘Ted’ San Juan with a net score of 61 strokes. All three winners of this class came from the host club.

First runner-up was Plaridel Judilla with a net score of 66 while Ben Villamor finished as second runner-up with a net score of 67.

It was also an all-Alta Vista show in the guest division that was ruled by Loloy Sabuga with a net score of 67 edging club director Ricky Aznar in the countback.

Aznar took the first runner-up honors while second runner-up was Henry Chu with a net score of 68. – THE FREEMAN
