More golf
If one word from the tournament title of last weekend’s event at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club would be used to describe the event, I’d say it would be fun.
The Alta Vista Christmas Fun Golf Classic may not have matched the 300 or so entries from last year but the new format gave the participants not only more holes to play, but also more chances to bond with fellow participants.
I’d also say it gave the players two chances to ace all five par-3 holes, but then unfortunately nobody made an ace in the three-day event.
Not wanting the fun this Christmas season to just end, the club is holding, for the first time in its young history, a monthly medal this December and it will be on the 26th.
This is also open to non-members of the club, who will play in the guest division.

This Friday, Alta Vista will be hosting the 2009 X’mas Senior Golfers Fellowship Tournament.
The tournament will be charging an entry fee of P1,500 for every participant. This is open not only to the members of the Federation of Philippine Senior Golfers Inc.-Cebu Chapter, but also to those who haven’t reached the age of 55 years old.
The non-seniors will have to play in the guest category.
Tee off time will be from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Wilky Lim, president of the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit Alumni Association asked me to help him inform their members about the SHS-J Blue Eagle Tee 2009 on December 23 at the Cebu Country Club.
This event is open to all SHS-J alumni and those who spent at least two years in the school.
One thing that is going to make this year’s competition is the introduction of the battle of the decades.
There will be teams from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. The coordinators for the teams are – Alex Pimentel for the 60s, Jun Zosa for the 70s, Peter Militante for the 80s, Didi Tiu for the 90s and Kento Nakada for the 2000s.
Wilky said that there is a car and an all-terrain vehicle at stake for a hole-in-one.
The tournament chairman is Steve Benitez of batch 1984.

I got word last Sunday from Retired General Rodante Joya, general manager of the Mactan Island Golf Club that the club is pushing through with the staging of the Mactan, Cebu Open Golf Tournament.
He did not give me many details yet, but this tournament, from what I have initially gathered, is that this will serve as a premiere amateur event where the best players of the country will be gathered.
I wish those who will be working on putting the event together all the best.
