Vergara, Largo win Mactan golf

CEBU, Philippines - Bart Vergara and Gen. Jaime Largo won the top honors in last Saturday’s Yearend Members’ Tournament and Christmas Party at the Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City.

Vergara bagged the overall lowest gross plum with nines of 34 and 38 for a total of even-par 72 strokes.

Largo had a gross score of 83 strokes. Less his handicap of 24, he finished with a net 13-under-par 59 strokes to runaway with the overall lowest net title.

The class A title went to Col. Rodrigo Codoy with a net score of 68 off a gross 78. He won it via the countback over Sandy Reyes, who finished with the same net and gross scores. Reyes settled for the runner-up honors.

Mario Bancale topped class B with a net score of 62 strokes off a gross 77 while runner-up honors went to Nilo Gozo with a net score of 68.

Capt. Steve Saldua won the class C diadem with a net score of 63 while runner-up honors went to Fernando Cuizon with a net score of 68.

The champion for the seniors’ class was Lt. Roberto Balcos with a net score of 65 and runner-up for the class was Col. Emeberto Creus with a net 67.

Batch Hernandez topped the distaff side with a net score of 73 and runner-up was Rowena Nakada with a net score of 78.

The longest putt on the 18th hole was made by B. Gen. Isidro Macaranas from 40 feet.

Jude Jadraque left a three-footer for a birdie on hole No. 15 to win the nearest the pin award while Sgt. Renato Aquino had a booming drive that landed 310 yards away from the tee mound to take the longest drive award on the first hole.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
