Team ZZ bags crown in Tomodachi golfest
CEBU, Philippines - Team ZZ bagged the top honors for the premiere handicap category of the Tomodachi Invitational Golf Tournament played over the weekend at the par-72 Cebu Country Club.
The team composed of Alex Garcia, Allan Lua, Kim Jae Eun, and Takenobu Nakada had a total of net 196 strokes to take the division A title.
Kim led the team with a net score of 64 while Garcia and Lua each turned in 66 strokes. Their Japanese member, Nakada had a net score of 74.
The tournament rules require each team to have one Japanese member. It was a four-to-play, three-to-count format.
Second place for division A went to team XXXX composed of Koichi Usami and the Mendoza family of Nestor and his sons Marvin and Martin. The team scored 199 strokes.
Martin led the team with a net score of 63 while his father had 67 and Usami had 69. The 73 of Marvin did not count.
Second runner-up was team B composed of Ernie Uy, Wellington Lim, Arturo Go and Joji Tatara with 202. Go and Lim each shot 67 while Uy had 68 and Tatara’s 71 did not count.
The champion for division B was team YY manned by Armand Serafin, Marlou Velasquez, Mariano Selma and Satoshi Okawauchi with a total of 188 strokes.
Serafin led the team with 62 strokes while Velasquez and Selma each made 63. Okawauchi shot 76 strokes.
Second place for the division went to team LLL with 200 strokes. Peter Mancao led the team with 63 strokes while Manolet Heredia added 67 and Koichi Iguchi had 70 and the fourth member of the team was Jiji Gullas with 78.
Third place went to team H that had Willy Suarez scoring 63 and also counting were Alvin Tan and Kazuhito Sugisawa with 71 apiece. Their fourth player was Vito Laferlita with 75.
In division C, team JJJJJ bagged the title with a total of 199 strokes. Tomoshi Hirano led the team with 61 strokes and also counting for the total were Ben Ebrada with 68 and Teodulo ‘Totoy’ San Juan with 70. Boy Barcelo was the fourth member of the team, he made 79.
Second place went to team GGGGG, which had three players seeing action and scored 200. Counting were Marcelo Tan with 63, Alfredo Tan with 67 and Akira Machida with 70. The fourth member of the team was Joy Anthony Ong.
Team J bagged the third place honors with a total score of 205. Scoring for the team were Raul Mabanto with 66, Kizuku Hirose with 69 and either of the 70s turned in by Lito Almendras and Mike Mancao.
In the ladies division, which was an individual event, Mila Chan won the title with a net score of 67 while runner-up honors went to Jeannette Chiu with a net 68.
Special prizes for nearest the pin on all par-3 holes were given to the top performer for each of the two days.
In the first day, those recognized were Shotaru Suda on hole No.3 where he left ten inches for a birdie, Jaime Antunez on No. 15 with 19 inches, Dennis Garcia on No. 13 with 125 inches, and Ernesto Uy on the 15th with 104 inches.
On the second day, Marvin Mendoza was closest on the 3rd with 37 inches, Masaaki Tateishi on the 5th with 220 inches, Koichi Usami on the 13th with 159 inches and Yoshimitsu Tamai on the 15th with 124 inches. (FREEMAN NEWS)
