I still can’t understand why so much blood has to be spilled just because of an elective position. I still can’t understand why armed men had to massacre civilians – media people and women members of the Mangudadatu family – because of hunger for power.
With all the bad news we have been receiving the past three days, my thoughts and prayers go to the families of my media colleagues, who became victims of political violence.
I’m sure there will once again be calls to arm the media people, which is something I don’t really support. Arm only those who are qualified and not everyone just because they claim to be from media as there are many pretenders like wolves in sheep’s clothing.
I’d rather that we all work for peace and pray that we would see an end to the violence that seems to come each time we hold elections in this country. Let us not lose hope on the Filipino, but at the same time let us not also just sit back and do nothing.

After the President’s Cup at Cebu Country Club last weekend, the final stretch of golf tournament’s for the year 2009 will continue this weekend with the November Monthly Medal of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
In last weekend’s event, the pair of jungolf champion Gio Gandionco and Noel Ybañez, who is one of the biggest supporters of junior golf being the dad of Big Jan Ybañez, topped the tournament.
This weekend’s monthly medal at Alta Vista will be the club’s last for the year as there will be no monthly medal in December, but the Christmas Fun Golf Classic, which is set on December 11 to 13.
The Christmas tournament will be played for three days for the first time in the history of the club, but participants will only see action for two days within that period.
It will be an individual tournament open exclusively to club members and guests of the sponsors.
Registration has started with the entry fee pegged at P2,500.
As always, the members of the tournament committee are working doubly hard to get enough sponsors to help foot the bill to make the event worthwhile for the participants.
There will also be an assessment for a mulligan (one every 9 holes) for all participants, but unlike in events where the money raised is used to cover other tournament expenses, the proceeds of the mulligan will be given to charitable institutions.
You will not only enjoy, but your little contribution would go a long way to help the less privileged. We just can’t assure you that when you use your mulligan it will really be better than the last shot hehehe…
Sign up now.

MILESTONES: I would like to wish my ‘big brother’, Ramon U. Sebastian, a very happy birthday. Ramon or Mony-Mony to his friends is well-loved not only by his family and friends, but also by many underprivileged youth, who are beneficiaries of his scholarship program.
Happy birthday greetings also go to my friends Jurellen Paez, Monmon Escaño and Noel Acedillo, who are also turning a year older today.
Congratulations to Eugene Maxilom, who passed the recent Licensure Exam for Teachers. He is the loving husband of Thelma, our hardworking secretary at Alta Vista. (FREEMAN NEWS)
