CEBU, Philippines - Pajo National High School of host Cebu kick-started its championship campaign with a resounding twin victories yesterday in the 6th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League billed as “Tournament of Champions” at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) gym in Brgy. Lahug, this city.

The Pajo belles of coach Fr. Rolando T. Manayon crushed the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) of Tacloban in three sets and later scored a similar thrashing of Ramon Avanzeña National High School of Iloilo City.

“The really prepared for this battle. We’re not yet celebrating though because we still have to face tough opposition against the rest of the contenders. I’m hoping that we will be lucky this time,” said Fr. Manayon.

Against EVSU, the Pajo mainstays took the first set, 25-12, and then sealed the remaining sets in dominating fashion, 25-10, 25-14.

In the afternoon session, Pajo sustained its sizzling run to outlast the Iloilo squad, 25-18, 25-20, 25-13.

Pajo trains its sights next on a heavyweight clash against Hope Christian High School of the National Capital Region (NCR) today.

HCHS, which dethroned University of Sto. Tomas (UST) during the NCR leg, likewise served early notice of its serious title bid by gunning down Palarong Pambansa champion University of St. La Salle (USLS)-Bacolod in four sets, 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19.    (FREEMAN NEWS)
