CEBU, Philippines - Amado Olea of the Philippine Airforce ruled the combined junior-senior division of the 2009 Lapu-Lapu Fiesta Chess Tournament at the Lapu-Lapu City Auditorium.
Olea and Lloyd Rubillos actually finished with identical 4.5 points, but Olea got the title via a superior tiebreak output applying the Bucholz system. He posted 18.5 points while Rubillos tallied on 15.5 markers.
Ryan Rubillos wound up third followed by Nilo Bonganciso and Ramil Resuera.
On the other hand, the Balbona brothers had a 1-3 finish in the kiddies division for entries aged 14 years old and blow.
Felix Shaun Balbona and Kyle Sevillano were tied with 4.5 points but Balbona claimed the crown with 20 tiebreak points as against Sevillano’s 16.
Balbona’s brother Marq Gabriel took the third place honors, while Jasper Ycong and Neil Gilig occupied the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN NEWS)
