USC title retention bid hit snag

-

CEBU, Philippines - The title retention bids of the University of San Carlos in this year’s Futures Basketball League hit a snag as the tournament opened at the Don Bosco Technology Center Campus in Labangon, this city.

Two of USC’s teams won but one lost on opening day.

USC-SC blasted the University of San Jose-Recoletos 62-40 in the juniors division. USC-North, the defending midget division champion, beat Cebu Eastern College 47-38.

USC’s mini team, however, received a rude welcome from Sacred Heart School-Jesuit and went down 19-36.

CEC Dragons later chalked up a win after its mini Team B overpowered Paref-Springdale 34-21.

CEC was declared a guest team by organizers after the school couldn’t come up with a complete lineup, thus their games won’t count in the standings.

Host Don Bosco Technology Center led other opening day winners in the midget division. DBTC Team A dumped USJ-R 55-17, Cebu Institute of Technology beat SHS-J 53-43 and Paref-Springdale edged Cebu Cherish School.

Action resumes next week as organizers opted not to schedule any games today to give way to the showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas, Nevada.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol   (FREEMAN NEWS)
