Labangon captures BCLP basketball crown

CEBU, Philippines - The Labangon cagers mentored by former UC point guard Jojo Lozano and managed by Rudy Tabasa defeated Duljo-Fatima, 99-93, to capture the championship in the Urban Barangay division of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines (BCLP)-Cebu City Chapter basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.

Earlier, Kalunasan nipped Pulang Bato, 99-97, to claim the Rural Barangay crown.

Glen Cabaluna paced Labangon with 18 points while Junel Villarosa added 16 as they spoiled the 29-point show of Duljo-Fatima’s Steve Fornolles.

Villarosa was named MVP in the Urban class, while Noel Cañedo of Kalunasan bagged the award in the Rural bracket. Lozano snatched the Best Coach accolade of the 2009 BCLP season.

The champion in both divisions took home P15,000 each, while the runners-up received P10,000 apiece.
