A City for an ace
The Fiesta Cup at the Mactan Island Golf Club is drawing a lot of attention according to tournament chairman Efren Belarmino.
Efren, general manager of Plantation Bay, said that the slots are being filled up and he is encouraging those who are yet to sign up to do so right away.
A Honda City will be put on line as one of the hole-in-one prizes alongside a Yamaha motorcycle, the non-cashable chips from Casino Filipino and a set of Honma irons.
Entry fee for the event is P5,000 per two-man team.
What makes the tournament interesting is the format where it is best ball scramble in day one and alternate shot on the second day.
The event will be held on November 13 and 14. This should give golfers a chance to watch the Pacquiao-Cotto fight on the 15th.

The Alta Vista Junior Challenge tees off on November 2 to 4. This is one of the junior golf tournaments in the calendar of the Philippine Jungolf Tour.
The three-day event is now on its fifth year and it has regularly drawn players from other parts of the Visayas, Mindanao and even Luzon.
The current holders of the club title perpetual cup are the players of Del Monte Golf Club of Bukidnon, which always sends a big contingent to junior events in Cebu.

Last Sunday I witnessed the family day of Cebu Eastern College and the game between the CEC Alumni Basketball Association (CECABA) and the CEC high School varsity team.
It was quite an exciting game as the “young ones” made sure that the “young once” would not have an easy time inside the court.
The alumni prevailed by a margin of two points, but I’m sure they were a bit shaken by the junior team. The focus of that activity was however not the game, but the alumni of the school coming forward to offer their help to CEC’s basketball program.
The alumni of any school can definitely play a very important role. The alumni plus the parents helped lift the basketball program of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit, which has reaped honors in various events the past few years.
It’s not really too late for CEC to start now, but of course the process doesn’t produce results overnight.
I hope the alumni of other schools would also do the same to give sports development a big push in their alma mater.
This can also be done by alumni of other schools as our way of helping develop better athletes in the future.
I’d like to hear more news like this and I am hoping that I’d see the same happen for my high school alma mater too.
Maybe we can push the development of batted sports at UP High School.
I’m calling my fellow alumni to support this cause.
