UC juniors lift third place trophy

CEBU, Philippines - The University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters salvaged some pride after losing their title as they swept the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers in their best-of-three series via a 103-83 rout in Game 2 to claim the third place trophy in the secondary division of the 9th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season at the Cebu Coliseum.

In the collegiate battle for third, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) lashed back at the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 81-78, to forge a rubbermatch.

Knowing that steady shooter Gerald Ampoon and spunky guard Jerei Marion Pingoy were under the stonewall defense of the Baby Lancers, the Junior Webmasters made a lot of adjustments yesterday in order to accomplish the job, putting Clint Saramosing into the battlefront to lead all scorers with 18 points.

Alfred Codilla had 14 points, while Ruel Padilla Jr. added a dozen markers for the Junior Webmasters. Their explosion was very timely as bulky center Alvin Labolabo, Jr. struggled with 11 points.

As usual, Gerald Legarde paced the Baby Lancers with 16 points. They fell to their four straight setback this season after being eliminated by surprise finalists Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildkittens.
