UC bantams reach semis in CESAFI basketball tilt

CEBU, Philippines - The twice-to-beat University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters needed a flurry of baskets in the third period to tame the stubborn Don Bosco Technology (DBTC) Baby Greywolves, 83-65, and advance into the semifinal round of the 9th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) secondary basketball competition last night at the USC gym.

The Junior Webmasters led by only six points ealry in the third period after a basket by John Eleazar Ruiz, 36-42, but all of a sudden, the game changed rapidly as the Junior Webmasters hit several unanswered baskets to finish that stretch with a 14-point advantage, 59-45.

Aside from his excellent quarterbacking skills, Jerei Pingoy was also a big factor on the offensive end finishing with 21 points for the Junior Webmasters.

Alfred Codilla added 11 markers, while Gerald Ampoon and John Raphael Aranas each scored 10 for the UC bantams, who are likely to figure in a grudge rematch of sort with the second-ranked University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers in the next phase of the tournament.

The Junior Webmasters virtually put the win in their bag after mounting a commanding 21-point edge, 77-56, on a three-point play by Clint Sarabosing with less than three minutes left to play.

Lourence Ruiz paced the Baby Greywolves with 21 points. His brother John had 11 followed by Jose Marlo Pono with 10. added 10 points.
