CEBU, Philippines - Hundreds of tabble paddlers from national team members down to the neophytes will showcase their wares in the 18th edition of the Erne Jawad Memorial Table Tennis Championships, which comes off the wraps today at the E-Mall Activity Center.
A total of six categories will be contested in the two-day contest: men and women’s open, boys and girls 17 and 12-under.
Last year’s top winners Julius Esposo and Marrel Lagunday have not yet confirmed their participation although they are expected to appear to defend their respective titles.
The promising Dannel Jay Tormis, who swept the 12 and 17-under crowns, will compete only in the 17-under braclek this time as he is already 13 years old.
“This event is not only about competition but also a reunion among players here so I hope everyone will have fun and let us make Erne happy by playing fair,” said national coach and former top player Jessica Jawad-Honoridez, sister of the late Erne Jawad. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
