Cebu Slow Pitch Softball Series on today

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Slow Pitch Softball Tournament Series – Part 1 will be played today at the Aboitiz Sports Field in the Mandaue Reclamation Area beside Makro.

This was bared by Jesse Bernad, owner and general manager of Fastball Batting Cages.

The event is a project of Fastball Sportsventure in cooperation with 102.7 Easy Rock managed by Marlon Baula, who is also a big batted sports fan.

Bernad said, “It has been months since our last softball tournament held from April 15 to May 23 and we’ve been hearing our players clamor for another tournament.

“Hence, we created an even more player-friendly tournament. Slow Pitch Softball is now the fad in the United States and even in Manila for weekend players to relive their glory days in the diamond. Anybody can play Slow Pitch Softball, even beginners as long as they are athletically inclined.”

Bernad said that they hope to have a series of tournaments all-year round with several people showing a renewed interest in softball and baseball through their facility.

He also said that several sponsors have already expressed their interest to back this project.

“The Aboitiz Sports Field has really been a God-send as we now have a venue to play our games and tournament,” Bernad said.

“We play our tune-up games there every weekend and it is open to all interested players and teams.”

Those who would like to join are very welcome, he added.

“We normally classify our players between beginners, amateurs, and commercial players so that there will be an equal playing field for all players.”

For today’s event, four teams are set to see action — Team Korea, International Phillies made up of expatriates, Los Bandidos – the newest team made up of young Executives and Team Fastball.

The tournament will follow a double elimination format.

Games will start at 10 am and will run until 5 p.m. There will be an opening ceremony before the start of the competition.
