CEBU, Philippines - Mendel Lopez and Maria Estella Mamac-Diaz stamped their respective classes in the IBP 5K Run last Sunday at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds.
Lopez collected his third consecutive title since returning to Cebu at the expense of Ben Alejandro in the men’s open division. Southwestern University’s John Philip Dueñas came in third.
In the distaff side, Mamac-Diaz made sure she will go home to Davao with a champion’s trophy by edging out Miscelle Gilbuena for the top spot. Lhoriz Echavez copped the third place honors.
ABS-CBN TV Patrol Central Visayas broadcaster Haide Acuña also stole part of the spotlight as she dominated the female lawyers class. She zoomed ahead of Visminda Truya and Negley Villanueva.
In the male lawyers bracket, Gandhi Truya came out the fastest followed by Marren Pañares and James Hupp III.
In the 3K Fun Run, Jorry Ycong outsmarted Joel Delposo to clinch the crown in the men’s open as Joebert Carolino ended third. Mary Joy Tabal reigned supreme in the women’s division followed by Girlie Redolosa and Donna Bagaria.
In the 3K lawyers action, Lito Ortiz topped the men’s class, while Ramenes Villagonzalo and Esteban Pascua occupied the next two spots. The top three finishers in the women’s category were Virginia Redolosa, Elaine Batan and Bingo Gonzalez.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
