Twists and turns of F-1 racing

Giancarlo Fisichella is set to debut as a Ferrari driver this weekend in the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. 

The Italian driver, who only the other weekend, finished second in the Belgian GP for Force India, will be driving Ferrari’s second car for the remaining five races of the season.

This came after test driver Luca Badoer, who took over the wheel from the injured Felipe Massa in the past two races, hardly made any impact although he did become a whipping boy of the sports commentators.

The entry of Fisichella into the Ferrari team is reportedly only for the rest of the season, in fact, he has said that Massa can take his car back anytime he wants to.

This also fuels a lot of speculations about the team’s plans for 2010. One Ferrari fan has already told me that she won’t be one anymore if Kimi Raikkonen, the winner of the Belgian GP, would not be driving for Ferrari anymore next year.

Another fan said that it is not always the driver, but the team, but he doesn’t really like the idea of Fisichella being there and hoped that it was seven-time Michael Schumacher instead.

I guess having the veteran Fisichella behind the wheel is still so much better than motorcycle GP champion Valentino Rossi, who has been reported as getting an offer to drive in Formula-1.

For a red-blooded Ferrari fan like me, I am just hoping to see improved results for the remainder of the season.

But I do feel better that its Raikkonen and Fisichella now and not Badoer, but Massa is still hoping to be back before the end of the season particularly during the Brazilian GP next month.

Although I am not very happy with the performance of my favorite team this season, Formula-1 racing has once again been very interesting.

This has nothing to do about sports, but sharing your blessings is something that should earn some column inches of newspaper space in any section.

Yesterday, my high school classmates and I went to the Missionaries of Charity shelter in barangay Pasil or is it Suba to share our blessings with the children housed there.

It was a very touching experience that I hope others would also get a chance to experience.

If we all just share what little we have or can with the needy, we shall have a better world.

To all my classmates from UP Cebu High School class of 1985, who organized the activity and attended it yesterday, thank you very much for the experience that we hope would get a chance to do more often.
