Enriquez, De los Santos triumph

CEBU, Philippines - Reiz Enriquez reclaimed his throne as king of the Cebu Doctors' University Run after ruling the record-field fourth edition of the annual race yesterday at the CDU-Mandaue campus.

Enriquez, who missed last year’s action, got an added bonus after being named as the "Sun Cellular Unlimited King" for showing the most enduring performance and posting fastest time in the 10-kilometer run.

The 24-year-old Enriquez broke away from the pack early on and never looked back to cross the finish line first in 31 minutes and 22.76 seconds.

Eugene Delposo wound up second with a 31:42.72 clocking, while birthday boy Adonis Singson placed this in 31:53.71.

It was another story in the women's division as Mary Grace de los Santos dethroned Madelyn Carter.

The Zamboanga-native De los Santos who had been making waves in Cebu races for the past two years clocked in 35 minutes and five seconds, while Carter logged in 42 minutes and 50.56 seconds.

Former singer/actress Donna Cruz-Larrazabal barged into third place with a personal best time of 48 minutes and 48.56 seconds.

Dr. Yong Larrazabal, Donna's husband and the man behind the event that drew over 4,000 participants, stole part of the spotlight as he stayed undefeated in the doctors class.

Larrazabal completed the lung-busting race in 41 minutes and 42.19 seconds followed by Harem Deiparine in 43:07.44. Raymond Bontol came out third in 44:21.84.

In the distaff side, Emily Estrada emerged the fastest in 54:51.10 followed by Rosan Trani in 56:31.68.

In the 5K run, Robert Daang copped the men's title, while Jeppy Lomongsod and Elvin Flores landed at second and third, respective. The top three finishers in the women's category were Joeyry Ann Lee, Florence Mata and Susan Militante.

The students category was swept by nursing students with Dale Bercede, Daryl Montes and Brylle Bomagat occupying the top three sports in the men's bracket. Rose Lanticse ruled the distaff side followed by Jona Galos.

In the all-male employees division, Charlie Berberio reigned supreme in dominating fashion with the time of 15:34.52. Bimbo Tequillo placed second in 30:34.54 followed by Dino Diez in 31:23.83. The top three in the all-female employees were Sydney Mabatid (31:10.56), Joy Cinco (39:24.34) and Emelyn Yu (39:25.30). – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
