Mandaue to send 5 pugs in Taguig boxing

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City will be fielding in five bets to the 2009 Mayor Freddie Tinga Cup National Invitational Amateur Boxing Championships set from August 14 to 16 at the Don Ambrosio Gym of the Cantada Sports Center in Bagumbayan, Taguig City.

They are Reoxyl Tabogon, Gerald Suico, Michael Romarate, Joseph Ebalang, and Mark Bernaldez. They will be coached by Peter Cuizon.

Tabogon and Romarate are students of Cabancalan National High School, while Suico is from Maguikay National High School .

Ebalang and Bernaldez come from Mindanao but are now based here in Cebu.

Cuizon is optimistic that his wards would fare well in the Taguig fisticuffs owing to their experience in joining several local tournaments particulary the Summit Natural Drinking Water Fight Night Series where they won their respective bouts in convincing fashion.

Tabogon will strut his punching wares in the 42 kgs. class, Suico in the 45 kgs., Romarate in the 48 kgs., Ebalang in the 51 kgs., and Bernaldez in the 54 kgs.

Aside from Mandaue and host Taguig, the other teams expected to see action in the three-day tilt are the Bacolod City-based Negros Amateur Boxing Association (NABA), Misamis Oriental, Puerto Princesa City, Tagbilaran City, and Southern Tagalog. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
