PABC bets shine in Summit slugfest

CEBU, Philippines - Three of five Philippine-Australian Boxing Club (PABC) simonpures subdued their respective rivals to dominate the initial offering of the Summit Natural Drinking Water Fight Night Amateur Boxing Series for the month of August over the weekend at the Mandaue City Plaza Square.28 kilograms prospect Reymund Rama and 29 kgs. bet Rayson Tarona bannered PABC’s triumph along with Jason Tuñacao.

Rama stopped John Ver Otik of Apas Elementary School in 51 seconds of the third round, while Tarona prevailed over Bryan Remedio of Cabancalan after the referee stopped the contest due to injury in 17 seconds of round two. Remedio’s nose was bleeding profusely that rendered him unfit to continue the fight.

Tuñacao, for his part, outsmarted Flores Boxing Club’s Uelmark Dignos, 2-1, in their 39 kgs. battle.

Uelmark’s brother Melmark, however, avenged his loss by crushing PABC’s Jeffrey Estel, 3-0, in the 30 kgs. class.

The other casualty for PABC was Bebe Rama, who fell prey to Archie Jakosalem of Sanai Boxing Club in the 23 kgs. division.

Two other Sanai pugs met contrasting fates. Last minute sub Angelo Angalot scored a 3-0 whitewash of Reycon Lumeles of Cabancalan in the 38 kgs. class, but Ariel Sibay was outclassed by Ramel Casanares of Pit-os in just 45 seconds in their 25 kgs. duel.

Cabancalan, last month’s most dominant squad, ended up with a 2-2 win-loss record this time, thanks to the gallant efforts of Michael Romarate and Joseph Ebalang.

The 49 kgs. Romarate silenced Ibabao’s Joedel Talle, while 44 kgs. Reoxyl Tabogon dumped his teammate Ferde San Roque.

In the other bouts of the ALA Boxing and Fitness Gym-organized event, Maguikay’s Gerald Suico needed only 50 seconds to terminate FBC’s Jessie Dignos (47 kgs.); Cagayan de Oro’s Joseph Ebalang outclassed Bogo’s Jumar Alburo in 59 seconds of round two (52 kgs.); and Butuan’s Mark Bernaldez pulled off a 3-0 triumph over Bogo’s Joseph Peligrino. —Caecent No-ot Magsumbol               (THE FREEMAN)
