CEBU, Philippines - Cebu’s longest running age-group football tournament, the Aboitiz Football Cup, starts its 12th season today at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
More than 40 teams will vie for honors during the tournament that will be played in the versatile international compliant field.
It’s the only field in the city that could host other sporting events such as softball, baseball, rugby and even volleyball.
The sports field has been completed for sometime but it will formally open today after the completion of the bleacher section and shower room for players.
Later in the month, the national U-14 team will play the Cebu Selection in the same pitch.
The RP team will be on fire when it plays Cebu. They will try to vent their ire on the locals after they were banned from playing in the recent Asian Youth Games in Singapore when one of its players was found positive with the A(H1N1) virus.
The brackets in the age group football tournament include 8 and 10 (boys and girls), Boys 12 and 14, Girls 17, Men and Women Open, Men’s League and 38 Above.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol.
