1ST Gov. Gwen Garcia Airsoft Championship: GAT stays on top of the heap

CEBU, Philippines - The fancied Guadalupe Airsoft Team (GAT) bolstered its title campaign as it topped the partial rankings as of game 88 yesterday in the final leg of the 1st Governor Gwen Garcia Airsoft Open Championship at the Prime Orion Property beside the Cebu Doctors’ University in Mandaue City.

The GAT shooters registered 4.375 points after thrashing Bogo Team Cobra, Extreme Airsoft Games Enthusiasts (XAGE), Tango Down, Hammerhead and the Negros Occidental-based Team Airsoft San Carlos (TASC).

GAT ruled three of the five legs staged, making them the heavy title favorite in the finale.

“We hope that we could really make it to the top. So far, I’m satisfied with the performance of our team. I could say that all of us are really doing our best,” said GAT team leader Dionnie “Teban” Baylon after their game against Hammerhead.

Crack Legion, on the other hand, occupied the temporary second spot with four points followed by Special Airsoft Action Team (SAAT) and West Rasmussen Team (WRT) with 3.5 and 2.875 points, respectively.

Hammerhead and Tango Down are tied at fifth with 2.5 points. Completing the top 10 were Philippine Airsoft Club of Mactan (PACMAN) with two points, Toledo Airsoft Group (TAG) with 1.625, Globus Petron Alliance with 1.375, and Alex S. Bingham (ASB) Commando with 0.875 points.

As of this writing, the elimination phase was still being completed.

The champion will take home the coveted GUV Cup, while the second and third placers will receive trophies.

Aside from the major awards, special citations will also be given away such as the Best Stealth Operative, Best in Sportsmanship, Best in CQB, and Best in Military Load-Out.

In terms of regularity and attendance, the Governor Garcia Airsoft Open could lay claim as the biggest airsoft event in the country.
