Finally, gold for Vega in the G-League National swimfest

CEBU, Philippines - Promising Cebuana swimmer Paula Abigail Vega finally won a gold medal that eluded her in the first two days of the G-League National Long Course and Age-Group Swimming Championships at Trace Aqua Sports Complex in Laguna yesterday.

Vega won the 200-meter freestyle to give the Cebu Blue Marlin its first gold in the swimming contest as of press time.

Vega also sizzled in the 50-meter backstroke to win bronze and has a 1-3 (gold, bronze) harvest, so far, in the contest.

Other Cebuano swimmers in the event won silvers. Noe Caneda of the University of Cebu (UC) won silver in the men’s 200-meter freestyle. Danielle Mae Ballesteros of the University of Southern Philippine Foundation (USPF) won silver as well in the 100-meter breaststroke.

The Navarro siblings – Lyn Ann and Anthony Linn – won three bronze medals among them bronze medals. Lyh Ann won 100-meter breastroke.of the University of Southern Philippine Foundation (USPF). Lyh Ann was third in 100-meter breastroke and 200-meter IM while Anthony Linn got his medal in the 200-meter freestyle.

The Cebu Blue Marlin team also snatched the girls’ 4x200-meter freestyle bronze courtesy of Vegas, Ballesteros, Trina Caneda and Kaitlin Capacio. The team is currently sixth in the field of 81 teams with 219 points. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol 

Leading the contest is the Lake City Swim Club with 368 points followed by the PCA Stingrays with 357 points. The Makati Skipjacks occupies the third spot with 355 points, VVCC Aqua Lacers is at fourth spot with 270.5 points and the Ayala Harpoons at fifth place with 259 points. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol     (THE FREEMAN)
