CEBU, Philippines - ASB Commando and Globus-Petron Alliance are tied for first after registering an identical 1-0-1 win-loss-draw record early in the 1st Governor Gwen Garcia Airsoft Open Championships yesterday at the Prime Orion Properties beside Cebu Doctors University in Mandaue City.
The ASB (Alex S. Binghay) Commando of Balamban made an impressive start by defeating Southern Cebu Airsoft Recon (SCAR) in round one.
Globus-Petron Alliance took its first victory by beating the same squad. ASB Commando and Globus-Petron Alliance then split the point in their match.
Tango Down and Crack Legion were the other early winners. Tango Down overpowered Bogo Team Cobra while Crack Legion won over Argao Team Airsoft.
Title favorite, Guadalupe Airsoft Team, on the other hand, is still winless after drawing its first two games against Crack Legion and West Rasmussen Team.
The other matches resulted in draws as teams showed solid defenses playing in the biggest game site ever made covering a total of 3,000m2.
During the opening ceremonies yesterday, Governor Gwen Garcia wowed spectators when she rode a V-150 armored personnel carrier (APC) that transported her to a 30-foot tower where she gracefully zip lined to the other side.
“Little did we imagine that the Governor Gwen Garcia Airsoft Open would solve the epitome of what sports tourism is all about,” said Governor Garcia during her speech.
Aside from the major awards, special awards will be given out like Best Stealth Operative, Best in Sportsmanship, Best in CQB Team and Best in Military Load-Out.
