Cabancalan, Bantayan top Summit slugfest
CEBU, Philippines – Cabancalan and Bantayan shared the top honors in the July edition of the Summit Natural Drinking Water Fight Night Amateur Boxing Series at the Mandaue Plaza Square in Mandaue City.
Cabancalan posted three wins and four losses, while Bantayan ended last weekend’s battle with a 3-2 card.
Cabancalan’s Vicente Seos-e scored a 3-0 whitewash of Ramel Castañares of Pit-os in the lone 25 kgs. battle, while Wendel Acharon clobbered Denver Desamparado of Bantayan at will en route to a convincing 3-0 victory in the 45 kgs. class.
Albert Maluya delivered Cabancalan’s third win, stopping Sanai’s Rejie Japay at the 1:20 mark of the first round.
Bantayan, on the other hand, earned as share of the spotlight, with Dino Dawa outsmarting Reoxyl Tabogon, 2-1, in the 48 kgs. category.
Dawa’s teammates Zalde Aroa and Christian Apawan also emerged victorious. Aroa silence Michael Romarate in their 52 kgs. bout, while Apawan punched his way to a 3-0 mauling of Cagayan’s Joseph Ebaleng in the 54 kgs. division.
It was not all jubilation though for the Bantayanon pugilists as Jupiter Rebo lost to Bogo’s Ferdie San Roque in the 40 kgs. class.
Maguikay, for its part, scored twin victories courtesy of 48 kgs. Gerald Suico and 28 kgs. Roger Dionson. Suico dumped Alang-alang’s Joedel Talle, 3-0, while Dionson needed just 39 seconds to dispose off Sanai’s Ariel Jay Sibay.
Johnver Otik, the lone bet of Apas, made sure he won’t go home empty-handed by pulling off a 2-1 squeaker over Banilad’s Joerich Ricarte in their 27 kgs. match of this ALA Boxing Promotions-organized event. – THE FREEMAN
