CEBU, Philippines - The tandem of Edwin Espina and Jonathan Dionson has set the early pace in The View Invitational 2009 of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
Espina and Dionson fired identical rounds of 38 points apiece in the Modified Stableford Scoring System for a total of 76 after their first round in the 36-hole event.
Three teams are tied in the club’s annual member-guest event with scores of 72 points each.
These are the tandems of Francisco Acosta and Jeremy Parulan (35-37), Edito ‘Nonoy’ Tirol and Gassy Lizares (38-34), and Alexandre Yeo and Jack Ligot (40-32).
A Kia Picanto courtesy of Gateway Motors (Kia Cebu) along with a residential lot from Santa Lucia Realty and Development Inc. and a class A share from Aznar Bros. Realty are among the prizes at stake for a hole-in-one.
Also put on the line are a Club Car golf cart from Club Car, a Yamaha golf cart from Midori Saisho Corp., a motorcycle from Norkis Trading, a trip to Hong Kong from Marist Royal Travel and Tours, and first bet certificates from Pagcor.
A Skygo motorcycle has been put at stake by Nito’s (Skygo) International for an eagle on any par-4 hole.
In case more than one player will win a particular hole-in-one or the eagle prize, they will have to equally share it.
The main supporters of the event are Stradcom, Malayan Insurance, Taiyo Yuden (Phils.), Petron Corp., and Ritzgolf Marketing.
The hole sponsors are Federal Phoenix Insurance, A.D. Gothong Manufacturing Corp., Cebu Progress, Cebu Bionic Builders, Plantation Bay, Philippine Airlines, and Profood.
Also classified as hole sponsors are Carlos A. Gothong Lines, Cebu Mitsumi, Gothong Southern Shipping Lines, Oriental Tin Can and Metal Sheet Manufacturing, Vanex Trading, Vic Enterprises, Waterfront Airport Hotel, Wealthbank, and WTG Construction.
Also supporting the tournament are Acas Elektrik, Puerto Servicio, Jonathan Guardo and Worldwide Steel.
Roger Lo and Rolando Uy are one point back with 71 points (43-28) while five teams are tied with 69 points apiece.
These are the duos of Jufil Sato and jungolfer LJ go (34-35), Wendell Yap and Andrew Cañete (39-30), Romeo Gapuz and Joey Reyes (36-33), Edwin Go Lim and Peter Militante (34-35), and Romy Hipolito and Rodrigo Codoy (40-29).
