Bad Boyz 4, CGBK and CCC rule 3rd Y101 Corporate Cup

CEBU, Philippines – The name of their team did not exactly predict the result of the tournament.

Bad Boyz 4 bagged the premiere Platinum Division title of the 3rd Y101 Corporate Cup, which was played last Saturday at the Cebu Country Club.

The team scored a total of 118 points behind the sterling performance of Rico Rey Francis ‘Koko’ Holganza, who fired 41 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System. Also counting for the team total in the four-man event with the three best scores to count were Marlo Cugtas with 40 and Edwin Espina with 37. The 35 of Roy Damole did not count.

Runner-up honors for the premiere division went to Bad Boyz 2 led by Ernesto ‘Dodong’ Siguan, who made 40 points and was ably backed by his wife Joy, who shot 38 and their balikbayan friend Nelson Muñeses with 37. Robert Limyutiong made 36, which did not count.

The tournament, which was participated in by over 50 teams was mainly backed by Armscor, the biggest manufacturer of guns and ammunition not only in the country but the whole of Southeast Asia.

In the second-ranked Gold Division, CGBK International scored a tournament-best 119 points to win the title. Those who counted for the team total were Alex Garcia with 40, Ricky Brown 40, and Kim Jae Eun with 39. Robin Craze made 31.

Runner-up honors went to San Remigio with 114 points. The team was led by the town mayor Mariano Martinez, who scored 40 points. Also counting for the team total were Miguel Martinez, the mayor’s son, with 38 and Jude Demiar with 36. Vice Mayor Nino Bascon’s 29 did not count.

The silver Division title went to Cebu Country Club with 109 points. Bugs Unchuan led the team with 40 points and also counting were Andrew Co with 35 and Cesar Libi with 34. Henry Dy made 33 and did not count.

Co also earned a special mention during the awards night for winning a special contest.

Runner-up honors for the third-ranked category went to Nautica with 104. The team’s scorers were Jerry Tan Uy with 37, Hector Wong with 34, and Emmy Tesalona with 33. Lars Hanson made 24 and did not count.

Individual awards will also go to Chandran Rama with 41 points for the highest net after he edged Holganza for the honors and to Gabriel Yap Jr. for the best gross score as he made 37 points shooting one-under-par 71 strokes on a perfect golfing day.

Since their prizes were not handed during the awards ceremony, the organizers said that they will have them delivered to their golf clubs. —NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
