Y101 golfest tees off today at CCC

CEBU, Philippines – “All slots are taken.” So said Joseph Stevens, vice president of Y101 FM about the 3rd Y101 Corporate Cup, which tees off today at the Cebu Country Club.

Stevens said that he will also keep the hole-in-one prize a surprise, but participants will definitely know about it when they tee off today.

The tournament has gathered together 50 teams of four players each, who will play one round using the Modified Stableford Scoring System. Only the three best scores for the day will count for the team total.

Teams will be classified under three categories where the upper third, based on the team’s total handicap, will compose class A, the middle third class B, and the lowest third will be class C.

The scoring format awards one point for net one-over-par, two for net par, three for net one-under-par, four for net two-under-par, and five for net three-under-par.

The tournament’s main backer is Armscor, which will be raffling off many of its products once again. The raffle of Armscor products is also one of the things that have set the tournament apart from the others.

The participating teams come not only from Cebu but also from other parts of the country.

The Y101 Corporate Cup was conceptualized three years ago by Martha Tuason, CEO of the station. She wanted to hold an event that the golfers would really want to take part in and look forward to doing so in the succeeding years.

This year, the organizers decided to do a one-day event. Last year’s tournament was supposed to be a 36-hole affair, but organizers called off the second day due to heavy rain.

With the weather holding up this week, organizers are hopeful that today would be perfect for golfing.

The ceremonial tee off to formally kick-off the event was held late yesterday afternoon with Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama doing the honors. – NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
