Class '95 and '91 hurdle first semis assignments

CEBU, Philippines – Centennial Hardware ’95 and Young Builders ’91 kicked of their respective semifinal campaigns in resounding fashion in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Tuesday evening at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Class ’95 gunned down six-time champion Roadstar/Castrol ’96, 58-52, while Class ’91 unleashed a furious endgame attack to repulse the gritty First Family Appliance ’87/94, 70-57.

Class ’95 was down by six at the end of the first period, 11-17, but countered with a 16-8 rally in the second canto to wrest the lead at halftime, 27-25, for good.

Joseph James Yu topscored two-time titlist Class ’95 with 12 points, while Dean Dy Teves and Archie Gue donated 10 markers apiece.

Rogelio Donayre was the lone double-digit scorer for Class ’96 with 10.

In the other game, Juan Borromeo, Jr. exploded with 22 points, while Tommy Yu contributed 13 points for Class ’91, which trailed by two at the break, 23-25.

But Class ’91 outscored Class ’87/94 in the third, 16-12, and closed the game with a 31-20 blast to seal the 13-point romp.

Bronson Peña and Wellington Yu nailed 13 markers apiece for Class ’87/94.
