You're the man, Phil
I’ve never been a big fan of the Lefty, but the decision of professional golfer and world number 2 Phil Mickelson to indefinitely suspend his PGA Tour schedule to be with his wife, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, is something that any husband should do.
I know many women who have survived breast cancer including my mother-in-law Herminiana G. Reyes and I’m sure that family support would be something that would help see them through the tough times.
Here in Cebu, I have a few friends, who are now fighting breast cancer or have survived it and I’m sure one thing that has helped a lot for those who are married is the support of their partner.
You can ask my ‘breast friend’ Manang Me-Anne Alcordo-Solomon, whose husband Manoy Tito was there all the time. Now Manang Me-Anne is one of those who are behind a support group for breast cancer patients.
For foregoing his lucrative career to be with his wife, I doff my hat to Phil and I’m sure many are praying the speedy recovery of his wife, Amy.

Over a hundred players are expected to head to the Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club today for the 1st Congressman Benhur’s Cup Fun Golf Tournament.
I had been hoping to make it up north today, but my scheduled is so tight that I’d have to be with them in spirit only.
Freddie Salimbangon, youngest brother of Rep. Benhur Salimbangon, told me yesterday that the event will use the Modified Stableford Scoring System with prizes for the overall lowest gross and lowest net and the top two of each handicap category.
Entry fee for the tournament is pegged at P1,800, which entitles the player not only to a chance to play in the 18-hole event, but also an overnight stay in Medellin.

My buddies from the Cebu Amateur Football Club and the Queen City United FC will gather this afternoon at the San Roque Parish field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City to celebrate the success of the recent 9th National Inter-Club Football Championships.
Patrio ‘Dodon’ Ramos insists that I have to be there not only to join the dinner, but also to witness the much-talked about rivalry of Queen City United teams A and B as they clash in a game prior to the celebration.
I once was a proud member of Queen City United team B and the best part of a tournament was beating our sister team hehehe…
Don’t eat too much lechon guys and I surely hope to see you there, especially our favorite teammate Ricky Dakay, who is also the director of Team Cebu City Football.

Milestones: Advanced birthday greetings to The Freeman and Philippine Star columnist Valeriano ‘Bobit’ S. Avila, who turns a year older tomorrow.
I’d also like to extend the same wishes to my friends Gemma Gulbe-Geshelin, Charisse Velez and Hans Congmon.
More power to all of you!
