Ave Maria places third in Toledo cagefest
CEBU, Philippines – The Ave Maria Sanctuary Park/USJ-R Jaguars of team owner Raffy Senining humbled the newly-crowned Visayas Amateur Athletic Association (VAAA) champion Asian College of Technology (ACT) Cyber Knights, 81-58, to settle for third place in the 1st Vice Mayor Rudy Espinosa Cup basketball tournament at the Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City.
Led by Archie Antigua’s 15-point haul, the Jaguars evenly distributed their offensive wealth with six players scoring 10 points or more. Desuyo chipped in 13 markers, while Ranulfo Malinao, Armand Ponce, Freddie Latosa and Randy Pogoy donated 10 points apiece.
Adelbert Nuñez led the Cyber Knights with 16 points followed by the high-leaping Davaoeño Elmer Aparice with 13.
In the Inter-Ballclub, the CSD Power Builders defeated the TSBA Boomers, 104-90, while the USC-North Passarelle team massacred its Toledo counterpart 85-61 in a friendly match.
Ave Maria received P30,000, while the Cyber Knights pocketed P15,000.
Toledo City councilor and sports commission chairman Jun Borja handed the cash prizes assisted by tournament director Estoy Jaranilla.
