CBM wins anew in G-League swimfest

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu Blue Marlins Swim Club made it two championships in a row as it dominated the Dumaguete City leg of the 2009 G-League Swim Meet Series at the Lorenzo Teves Memorial Aqua Center.

The CBM tankers collected a total of 3,199 points followed by the Negros Oriental Blue Dolphins with 2,401. Another Dumaguete City-based squad placed third with 2,013 points.

Just like the Cebu leg, CBM’s latest success was spiced up with several most outstanding swimmer awards.

Rian Raphael Tapang and Kristina Angelika Torres were the best swimmers in the 7-under class, while Renan Gabriel Tapang and Karen Mae Indaya topped the 8-under and 9-under brackets, respectively.

Lyh Ann Navarro and Michael Ichiro Kong ruled the 10-under category, while Lyh Ann’s brother Anthony Linn dominated the 11-under category. Nicolas James Chiong and Ana Daniela Paraiso reigned supreme in the 13-under bracket.

Paula Abigail Vega and Noel Cañeda also posted back-to-back MOA awards in the 17-above category.

Medal wise, CBM’s Noel Cañeda and Michael Ichiro Kong hauled five golds each, Karen Indaya had five golds and a silver, Lyh Ann Navarro snatched four golds and a silver, while Anthony Linn Navarro bagged three golds.Paula Abigail Vega picked up two golds and his brother Michael David also had two golds plus a silver. Jerose Rosada scooped two golds and a bronze, Romylyn Nina Ignacio posted a 2-1-1 gold-silver-bronze medal tally, while Chargen Bautista, Pierre Nino Baguio,Patricia Mae Baguio and Joyce Huguete tallied an identical 1-1-1 medal haul.

Danielle Mae Ballesteros contributed a gold and a silver, Fritz Tamara had a gold and a bronze, while Kaitlin Capacio and Nicolas James Chiong had a gold each plus a gold in the boys relay and a silver in the distaff side.      

The other swimmers who turned over medals for CBM were Danielle Angela Biscocho and her brother Serge Patrick, Christine Indaya, Merlyn Silva, and Christopher Paulo Zosa.

CBM coach Rolando Alvarez called for a celebration as this is their third straight victory this year.The first one was the Osky Mabilog Cup. (THE FREEMAN)
