Philippine Army, SRFC sparkle in National Inter-Club football

CEBU, Philippines – Philippine Army’s Team 53 showed what real warriors are made of as they conquered Queen City United via penalty shootout, 5-2, to clinch the men’s open crown of the 2009 CAFC National Inter-Club Football Championships at the University of San Carlos-Technology Center field in Brgy. In the 38-above, it was the best striker Rene Maambong of SRFC who agged the MVP title, while his teammate Dante Orejedos was the best defender. Hiroshi’s Glenn Ramos was the best midfielder and QCU-A’s George Morales the best goalie. Willy Caballero got the golden boot.

On the other hand, Mark Veloso was declared as MVP in the boys 12-under title and not his teammate Kiko Villamor as earlier reported.

The other awardees in the boys 12-under were Springdale’s Inso Ceniza, SHS-J’s Carlos Canlas (best defender), Canduman’s Joseph Filicilda (best striker and golden boot) and Begornia (best goal keeper).

Coach Glenn Ramos’ son, Glenn Thomas grabbed three awards including the best midfielder, golden boot and the coveted MVP plum in the boys 10-under, while his teammates Salazar and Ceniza were the best defender and goal keeper, respectively. Canduman’s Kenneth Domingo came out as the best striker.

Like Glenn Thomas Ramos, another Bosconian Christian Agot won three awards as the best midfielder, best striker and the golden boot in the boys 14-under. Pomeroy’s Shane Sarmiento was the best defender, DBTC’s Rafael de Guzman was the best goal keeper, while Joshua Mercado snatched the MVP accolade.
